Hd Tank Eg-m31b Manual
Hello Apologises straight up for the daft question, but how exactly do you update the firmware? Only been in the world of NMT for a week or so, and I gathered via a little research that you download the rar file, extract the bin file, then put it on a USB stick, then plug the stick into the back of the M34A.
And I know that you then go to the USB on the media source, select the 4th option for files, and (I have been told) press enter on a file called USBUpdate.html. Except that when I go into the USB, I cannot see anything. I have tried now to have both the extracted bin file as well as the original rar file, and I cant see either. What am I doing wrong? Any help please would be most apprieciated:-) thanks! Just a note to those that have been waiting for this firmware.
New firmware offers full DTS downmix support on M34 and M31 Egreat NMT products. Download is available from the egreat website and mirrored on for faster downloads. Ta for the clarification.except my brain is being completely computer stupid right now.maybe its cos its Sunday night.but what exactly do you to extract into the root of the USB stick? So sorry for the near simpleton nature of my request.it make me sounds like a fool!:-) but for the life of me I cant remember! Thanks mate Hi Mate, You have it all correct, but you must make sure that you extract into the root of the USB stick. In the egreat case you execute the linda.html (don't ask me why its linda.html it just is) All should be good then:) If you do not extract into the root of the USB stick then it will not work (because the html file points to the bin file in the root directory).

It goes without saying that after you plug your usb stick in you must select it as the media source. Hi guys, thinking of getting the eGreat M34B.
Any suggestions on a good 1TB drive for it. I need it quiet and cool running. The noontec 3785 does everything the egreat m34a does plus a lot more. According to reviews its the first player that plays all hd video formats and is cheaper than the egreat m34a. The xtreamer available over seas is a lot cheaper again at half that of the egreat m34a.
Owning an egreat m34a and I already regret it. Networking is pathetic and playback is only passable. Egreat m34a sells for $240.
Noontec 3785 for $226 to $300 or so but can add an internal hard drive. Asus player uses the realtek chips which easily out perform the sigma 8634/35 processors. Review here on the asus player. Jase you really seem hell bent on promoting this product with absolutely no basis of fact except one review on a vaporware product. And this is not the first time you have pulled this stunt This is not on topic and moderators should delete your post.clearly you are attempting to denigrate a product in a thread that is not even related to the noontec product.
This guy if he wants to make a comparison should do it in a thread dedicated to that purpose not hijack a thread to do with a firmware upgrade!! My feed back from my customers who have bought noontec products off ebay are that they are crap.but then I am not here to denigrate other peoples products. My customers are stoked with the performance of the M34A, with the exception perhaps of possibly you.

Network performance is up around 50-60M/sec for FTP, more than enough for bluray rips. Not gigabit performance sure but quick enough. M34A does not pretend to be dvico but nor is the price any where near it. Playback of all 1080P material over wired network is flawless, perfectly suitable for NAS which is what this product is intended for. If you want a NMT buy the M31B.
The linda.htm file is in the same archive as the bin file. So where does the 'linda.html' file come from? The only file i got when i downloaded was the rar file?
The RAR file is an archive and you need to extract the two files. 04-15-EGR-403-000.bin and linda.htm.contained therein and copy them into the root (top) directory of your USB stick.
Basically, you extract the.rar to the top of a usb stick, boot the M34A, insert the USB stick, then browse the USB Stick, choose the 4th media option (not video, not audio. Choose 'text') and then select the htm file (linda.htm). AFTER selecting linda.htm you will see a screen with the firmware version at the top of your screen. Press ENTER again and the firmware update process will begin.
After the upgrade is complete wait for the M34A to start a countdown and it will reboot itself. OK, one thing I can't figure out how to do on the EG-M31B is if I have a USB external drive that has movie media on it, can I just copy it to the internal HDD or do I have to hook it up via the LAN to do this. I can't see a function that allows just copying an ext device to the internal HDD.
Can anyone straighten me out on this one. I did try just plugging it into an XP machine and hoped it would just show up as an external drive allowing me to copy across – no such luck.

Any feedback would be appreciated. You need these two files in the root of your USB stick: 04-15-EGR-403-000.bin and linda.htm When you select the USB stick as your media source.move to the right hand most icon and then execute linda.htm Hope this helps:) Hi Modspace, Thanks for your advice.it was the only clear outline anywhere as to how to go about updating my eGreat M31b. However, I have been repeatedly running into a snag: I have downloaded the latest updates from 1. EGreat China.(did not work).then 2. EGreat USA (no luck).and finally 3. EGreat Australia (mirror) and each time put them into the root drive of a usb stick (I have tried two different sticks as well.
I get to the stage where it starts updating but then I get the error: 'wrong update image size, please reboot' WTF! Searched online and no help there. What am I missing here?
My eGreat was purchased in July 2008 and I have never updated the firmware. I am only trying to do it because I have recently has some audio issues with some newer files I have and I suspect the update will sort this out. OK, one thing I can't figure out how to do on the EG-M31B is if I have a USB external drive that has movie media on it, can I just copy it to the internal HDD or do I have to hook it up via the LAN to do this. My advice is to forget about the internal drive and just use 2.5' external drives connected externally. All you have to do is plug them into your PC, copy across what you want.disconnect.walk to mediaplayer.connect.and there you have it.if you put your movies under directories it is easy to navigate on the screen. I have been doing it this way for the past year and it is working well.no overheating issues either. I have a usb extension cord with a mini usb connector at the other end which plugs into my 2.5' drives.simple.
These drives are now up to 500gb and do not need external power to operate.just the usb connection. Either this or try to work out how to network it with your PC.I tried but it was beyond a noob like me. Does the Egreat M34A have the option of upgrading the firmware via the menu on the unit itself if it connected via ethernet to the internet, as the Popcorn Hour allows? Vergs Yes but I find it much better to simply D/L the firmware to a memory stick and plug it into the USB port.
Also for those thinking about buying a dedicated A/V HDD I would strongly recommend spending the extra $80 and getting a M31B that has the enclosure, if you care enough to spend the extra money on a AV HDD, spend the extra so you can protect and enclose it properly rather than have it 'dangle' off the side via the sata port. Better yet take a look at the M35A, its a really nice looking unit and the price is not going to be where it is for much longer as they are proving to be very popular.
I just received our eGreat eg-m34a in the mail yesterday (Wednesday). So I hooked it up to our TV with the HDMI cable (I used my own instead of the one that came with it, just in case it was better quality).

Then I took a memory stick and downloaded the firmware update from this thread. When I stuck it in the the little port for it, it wouldn't update. What exactly do I need to do, in LAYMEN'S TERMS as I am NO expert and don't understand the too technical verbage?? I saved a handful of movies onto our WD Passport external drive thingy. It plays the movies fine (transferred from our DVD via DVDFab using the DVD - iPod option). The sound is barely there, and the subtitles won't go away, but it works. Maybe the firmware will improve the sound.

If only I could update it. Any help on this out there??
