After a detailed study regarding support of Windows ® 8 and 8.1 Professional, GM Customer Care and Aftersales has determined that Windows 8 does not offer any new features necessary to diagnose and repair vehicles and that Techline applications will not adopt the Windows 8 operating system as part of the GM Dealership Infrastructure Guidelines. Windows XP Professional GM Techline discontinued support of Windows XP Pro on January 1, 2011. Over the last two years, Techline inquiries show some dealership service department PCs still use Windows XP. If using Windows XP, review the PC needs in your dealership service department and develop a plan to replace Windows XP machines in order to have full Techline support. – Thanks to Lisa Scott. A consumer grade laptop has been working fine for me with tis2web, gm si, and SPS. Only thing that doesn’t work is GDS 2.

GM Is not willing to have to spend the time and money to help techs with using windows 8. If everyone has to use windows 7 it’s easier for their support team. My consumer grade laptop cost me $900, it has 16gb ram, 1tb memory, and a 4th gen i7 processor. If I had to get one like that from gesolutions it would cost about $4000-6000. No thank you, just do the techs a favor and start getting with the new technology out there today.
