Incubation, released in 1997 by Blue Byte Software, was sold as Incubation: Time is Running Out and Incubation: Battle Isle Phase Four. About six months after the original was released, an expansion entitled Incubation: The Wilderness Missions was released.

Travel to the colonized planet of Scayra and enter the dark and terrifying world of Incubation - the next chapter in the Battle Isle saga. Following a power plant accident, the vast energy shield that separates the Chromian colonists from the indigenous life-forms - the Scay Ger - suffers a total shutdown, allowing contact between the two races for the very first time. A human virus has now infected the Scay Ger, mutating them into violent, blood-thirsty monsters. As commander of a squad of elite space marines, only you can stop the vicious attacks and evacuate the remaining colonists before all is lost! Incubation is a turn-based strategy game in the same vein as the X-Com or Breach games, with a focus on tactical combat. The player controls a squad of space marines in an attempt to suppress an alien onslaught. Units gain experience points for each kill.
Experience translates into skills, which can then be used with equipment points to acquire better armaments.
Inhalt: Battle Isle Platinium is pure strategy combined with a compelling backstory. Consisting of the first four installments of the series, it offers the opportunity to play and experience a huge chunk of Battle Isle history, from the very beginnings on up to the events on Scayra, the colonial planet of Chromos – a planet so distant and yet so similar to Earth. The history of the Kais and the Drulls is one comprised of only a few Chromian centuries, but centuries with one war following the other, with destruction and upheaval determining the development of Chromian society.
